Purpose:
To analyze the influence of intraocular astigmatism (ORA) in the effectiveness of LASIK surgery in high myopic astigmatism.
Setting:
Vissum Corporación Oftalmológica Santa Hortensia, Madrid, Spain
Methods:
A retrospective interventional serie of 116 consecutive myopic eyes, with -3 D of astigmatism or more, that underwent LASIK surgery performed by the same surgeon.
Results:
Mean preop cylinder was -4 ± 0.83 D (range -7.5 to -3D) and mean preop ORA was -0.92 ± 0.7D. No correlation was found between the ORA and the refractive cylinder 3 months postop (p=0.6).
Conclusions:
In eyes with high myopic astigmatism the ORA is not correlated with the residual postoperative cylinder. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
