Purpose:
To assess visual outcomes after combined treatment consisting of astigmatic Lasik before posterior chamber refractive lens for high myopia (PRLĀ®, Zeiss/Meditec) implantation, and compare with Lasik after PRL implantation through a series of case reports
Setting:
Oftalmar, Medimar International Hospital. Alicante. Spain
Methods:
Three case reports are presented consisting of four eyes of three patients with significant astigmatism associated with a high myopic defect and submitted to a combined refractive surgical procedure. In three of those eyes, Lasik was carried out before phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation, while in reversed order in one other case. Visual outcomes are presented and discussed.
Results:
Similar refractive and visual outcomes were obtained when Lasik was carried out prior to PRL implantation compared to when the photoablation was carried out afterwards
Conclusions:
LASIK for astigmatism correction seems equally effective either before or after PRL implantation for the correction of the high myopic defect FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
