Purpose:
to evaluate the immediate and long term efficacy and safety profile of glaucoma xpress a new glaucoma filtration device
Setting:
vasan eyecare hospital a tertiary care eye hospital with referral glaucoma services
Methods:
12 eyes of 12 patients evaluated and confirmed as cases to undergo phacoemulsification with conventional trabeculectomy were offered the option of a new glaucoma filtration device. all patients were confirmed cases of POAG (7) or CACG (5) with significant caataracts.their baseline IOP, visual fields and optic nerve head study was done. post operatively IOP was measured on day 1, 1month, 3 months and 6 months. they were also evaluated for any complications arising from the surgery
Results:
all patients had 20% reduction from baseline pre op IOP and it stabiised at 15 to 20% at 3 months and 6 months post op. No untoward effects or complications were noted in any of the patients
Conclusions:
Glaucoma xpress a new glaucoma filtration device is effective in lowering IOP and maintaining it over long term in POAG and CACG patients with no untoward side effects FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
