Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess results after AcrySof Cachet Phakic IOL implantation in patients with high myopia, who underwent surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology Medical University of Warsaw and Eye Microsurgery Center Laser in Warsaw.

Setting:

Total number of 45 patients (88 eyes) with high myopia (range from-5.5D to -19,5D; mean -10.45D) were enrolled to the study.

Methods:

Following parameters were evaluated: preoperative refraction, postoperative NCVA and postoperative refraction, and also patient satisfaction on a scale from 1 to 5. Loss in endothelial cells counts in the central part of the cornea in 6 months intervals was additionally evaluated.

Results:

The following parameters were obtained: Preopereative refraction from -5.5D to -17.5D, mean -10.45D; Postoperatvive NCVA from 0.4 to 1.0; 80% eyes > 0.8; Postoperative refraction – from +0.25 to -2.25, mean -0,26D. After bilateral AcrySof Cachet Phakic implantation the satisfaction rate among 100% of patients ranged between 4 and 5 on 1 to 5 scale (scale: min=1; max=5). Endothelial cells loss associated mainly with perioperative stress measured 6 months after surgery was 3,6%, in further measurements authors observed endothelial cells loss of 1,3% each year.

Conclusions:

AcrySof Cachet Phakic lenses implantation is an effective surgical procedure, which allows high myopic patients to achieve very good postoperative VA without any need for spectacles correction. This procedure is a very good alternative for patients with thin cornea and high myopia, who are not eligible for laser refractive procedure. Performed studies showed good functional results and great patientsÂ’ satisfaction achieved after AcrySof Cachet Phakic lenses implantation. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
