Purpose:
To evaluate visual outcomes and complications of the foldable Artiflex toric iris-fixated intraocular lens (Ophtec BV, The Netherlands) for the correction of myopic astigmatism in phakic eyes.
Setting:
Private practice surgery centers, Valencia and Terrassa, Spain
Methods:
Forty-two eyes of 25 patients underwent implantation of the foldable iris-fixated toric phakic intraocular lens (pIOL). At 12 months, the refraction, uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuities, complications, pIOL misalignment, and endothelial cell count (ECC) were evaluated
Results:
Spherical equivalent was reduced from -8.85 ± 2.71 diopters (D) to ?0.37 ± 0.46 D. Mean cylinder power decreased from -2.90 D (range -1.50 to -5.00 D) to -0.39 D (range 0.00 to -1.50 D). All eyes achieved UDVA of 0.5 (20/40) or better, and CDVA of 0.8 (20/25) or better. A gain of 1 line or more of CDVA was found in 69.1% of eye; no eye lost 1 or more lines of CDVA. Refraction was highly stable. The mean ECC decrease was 9.3%. Iris pigment precipitates were observed in 16.7% of eyes
Conclusions:
After 1 years of follow-up, the implantation of the foldable iris-fixated Artiflex toric pIOL proved to be effective, predictable, safe and stable for the correction of myopic astigmatism FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
