Purpose:
To compare Surgically Induced Astigmatism (SIA) with 2 side port versus an additional 3rd side port Phacoemulsification.
Setting:
Mission trust,Bawri Nethralaya
Methods:
A comparative study was done with 240 subjects .120 subjects from each group with 2 and 3 side ports at a particular angle from the main port, during cataract surgery.K1 and K2 value were taken on 1st pre-operative, 3rd day and 6months post operative. Clear corneal phaco emulsification was performed in all the cases with Infiniti (Alcon) machine, age group was 40-70 yrs. Patients were followed up till 6 months.
Results:
SIA level had reduced by 48%with 3 port incision as compared to 2 port incision immediately after operation. This difference even maintained till end of follow up period. .
Conclusions:
The 3rd sideport reduces the SIA in surgeons particularly who are comfortable with superior position main port incision and has an Important role in Multifocal IOL,s as well as monofocal IOL's where no or low astigmatism produces excellent vision and patients satisfaction. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
