Purpose:
To analyze the optical quality of a new diffractive multifocal hydrophillic acrylic intraocular lens, the I-Diff
Setting:
Tertiary Care Eye Hospital
Methods:
The I-Diff is a full optic diffractive multifocal IOL, available with near additions of +3D, +3.5D and +4D. We analyze the optical quality of the eye in 50 patients using the 'Optical Quality Analysis System' machine, following the implantation of the I-Diff multifocal IOL with a +3.5D add. We measure the contrast sensitivity, modulation transfer function (MTF), scatter index (OSI) in addition to the routine distance and near visual acuity. The internal HOAs of 12 patients were also analyzed on the Nidek OPD Scan III
Results:
: The uncorrected visual acuity for all patients was 6/6 for distance and N6 for near. The MTF had a mean of 32, the Strehl Ratio was 0.132 and the scatter index 1.8. The internal higher order aberrations (by the IOL) was 0.76. The scotopic & mesopic constrast sensitivity (with & without glare) checked on the FACT were within accepted normal limits. The accommodative range which the OQAS allows us to measure was an average of 2 D
Conclusions:
: I-Diff is a new generation acrylic diffractive multifocal IOL which provides excellent distance and near vision, good MTF, an acceptable level of scatter and good contrast sensitivity at scotopic and mesopic levels of illumination. The internal higher order aberrations generated by the IOL are comparable or better than the accepted MFIOLs FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
