Purpose:
to evaluate the sliding conjunctival flap as a simple management for pterygium
Setting:
SANA'A UNIVERSITY
Methods:
The study includes 60 eyes of 45 patients with pterygium, 25 were male and 20 females with the mean age of the patients was (39.31) years range 20 60 years.
Simple excision under local anesthesia was performed using an operating microscope with sliding conjunctival flap to cover the bare sclera.
Results:
The recurrence rate was 4 cases ( 5.6%) after one year follow up.
The most common complication was flap retraction and persistent hyperaemia.
Conclusions:
Sliding conjunctival flap is safe and easy procedure to perform for the management of pterygium as an alternative to conjunctival autograft.
