Abstract Details

Purpose:

The study was conducted retrospectively to evaluate visual outcomes in patients who received VISX laser enhancement (PRK or LASiK) post phacoemulsification with multifocal IOL implants.

Setting:

Center for Excellence in Eye Care

Methods:

Eyes that received Tecnis Multifocal (TMF: ZMB00, ZMA00), or Restor (SN6AD1, SN6AD3) IOL unilaterally or bilaterally followed by laser enhancement (PRK or LASiK) were included in this study. All enhancements between April 2006 and November 2011 were included for analysis. Outcome measures included UCVA and diopters of astigmatism pre and post-enhancement.

Results:

74 eyes with multifocal IOLs (69% Restor, 31% Tecnis Multifocal) that underwent laser vision correction enhancements were evaluated; 69 of these eyes received PRK, 5 received LASiK. Average age for all patients was 66 years. 51% of patients were male. 25/74 (33.8%) eyes that underwent enhancement had ?1D of astigmatism preoperatively, compared to 10/70 (14.2%) eyes post-enhancement. 18.9% eyes had UCDVA of 20/30 or better pre-enhancement. 75.7% eyes had UCDVA of 20/30 or better post-enhancement. 64.9% of eyes had UCDVA of 20/50 or better pre-enhancement and 96% of eyes had UCDVA of 20/50 or better post-enhancement.

Conclusions:

This preliminary evaluation of VISX Laser enhancement for improving vision in patients who are post Multifocal IOL implantation suggests that this procedure can effectively improve visual acuity. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
