Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study visual outcome after implantation of toric multifocal intraocular lenses (Toric MFIOL)

Setting:

Narayana Nethralaya, tertiary eye care center, Bangalore, India

Methods:

Toric Multifocal IOLs were implanted in cataract patients with an astigmatism of 0.75 to 2.5D. Online calculator aided incision & IOL axis placement. Uncorrected distance & near vision, axis of IOL, contrast sensitivity & quality of vision were assessed

Results:

10eyes of 9 patients, with a mean age of 48.78± 13.59 yrs, were included. 8 eyes received the Acrysof IQ RESTOR Toric IOL (Alcon) & 2 received the ATLISA toric 909M (Zeiss). Mean preoperative astigmatism was 1.62D. At 6 wks, all eyes had an uncorrected vision of 6/6, 70% had N6 and 30% had N8 . An MTF of 30 and an OSI of 2 are the accepted normal. The Toric MFIOLs checked on the Optical Quality Analysis System showed a mean MTF of 42 cycles/deg& a mean Scatter Index of 1.4± 0.6. The contrast sensitivity checked with the FACT, were in the accepted normal range and mean angle of rotation was 2.6°.

Conclusions:

Toric multifocal IOLs provided excellent uncorrected distance & near vision and the MTF and OSI are far better than normal, thus providing a quality of vision higher than the accepted standard for multifocal IOLs. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
