Abstract Details

Purpose:

To estimate the effect of lens phacoemulsification with IOL implantation in cases of eye blocks combination in patients with angle closure glaucoma (ACG) complicated pseudoexfoliative syndrome (P?S).

Setting:

The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Moscow, Russia; The Eye Clinic at the Health Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Methods:

To estimate the effect of lens phacoemulsification with IOL implantation in cases of eye blocks combination in patients with angle closure glaucoma (ACG) complicated pseudoexfoliative syndrome (P?S).

Results:

There have been selected 42 Uzbek patients (63 eyes) with ACG and different degrees of lens opacity for this investigation. Clinical PES symptoms by slit-lamp biomicroscopy were absent in all patients. The comparative group included 18 health persons (32 eyes) without glaucoma, biomicroscopy symptoms of PES and with transparent lens. Complete ophthalmologic examinations were added with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM Humphrey-840, USA). Parameters of iridocilliary structures were measured: angle opening distance at 500 ?m from the sclera spur (AOD500), trabecular meshwork-ciliary process distance (TCPD), posterior chamber area and volume.

Conclusions:

UBM is a method to reveal PES in 66% of ACG cases. PES provokes systems of eye blocks in one eye with ACG. Lens phacoemulsification is pathogenic operation in cases of eye blocks combinations in patients with ACG complicated with PES. Phacoemulsiaicftion allowed to decrease of intraocular pressure, to achieve of its stability and to restore anatomic topographic relationships of iridocilliary zone. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
