Purpose:
: acg in patients on anti-depressants medication who are for more than 1 year of treatment were followed for 6 months for gonioscopy and applanation tonometry.to check whether drug increases the risk of acg in patients having normal angle.
Setting:
md physicians in surrounding location were adviced to refer patients to eye clinic for free checkups for gonioscopy and applanation tonometry .free visit were encouraged so as prevent followups dropouts.15 patients were enrolled . all the findings were systematically noted and chart prepared.visual acuity were 6/6 with grade3 shaffer system of classification.all iop were between 16-18mmhg.no previous history of medication for glaucoma.optic disc cupping was normal.
Methods:
: all patients were followed monthly in mornings . there iop and goniscopy examination were carried out to determine any change in pressure or narrowing of angle.
Results:
:6 months all iop and angle were normal.33% i.e 5 patients iop developed 20-22mmhg with grade 2 narrowing of angle. Rest were normal.headache complain were assosicated with rise in iop.
Conclusions:
tricyclic anti-depressants used for long term over have high likehood on going into narrowing of angle and rise in iop.regural follow-up and risk factor of causing secondary angle closure glaucoma is high FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
