One year results of intracorneal rings in children with moderate and severe keratoconus

Purpose:

To evaluate the one year results of implantation of INTACS SK intracorneal rings (Addition technology) in children with keratoconus associated with spring catarrh

Setting:

Dar El-Oyoun Eye hospital,Dokki,Giza, Egypt

Methods:

9 eyes of 8 children, aged between 11 & 15 years having moderate or severe keratoconus were implanted with the new INTACS SK ring segments. Preoperative Uncorrected Visual Acuity UCVA ,Best Corrected Visual Acuity BCVA were compared with Postoperative UCVA &BCVA. The preoperative and postoperative Pentacam corneal photos were analysed Complications were recorded Follow up period: 1 year

Results:

Mean UCVA improved from 0.072(Decimal scale) pre-operatively post-operative to 0.29 post-operatively. Mean BCVA improved from 0.15 pre-operatively to 0.55 post-operatively. MEAN keratometry improved from 53.64 Diopters pre-operatively to 46.53 Diopters post-operatively. No segment migration or extrusion was recorded

Conclusions:

INTACS SK implantation in children with moderate and severe keratoconus associated with spring catarrh is associated with significant improvement of UCVA & BCVA . FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
