Purpose:
To evaluate the changes in higher-order aberrations (HOAs) after implantation of iris-fixated foldable phakic intraocular lenses(Veriflex pIOLs )
Setting:
GM St. Marys eye clinic, Busan, Korea,Busan Paik Hospital, Busan, Korea
Methods:
sixty-eight eyes that had undergone Artiflex pIOLs implantation between February 2011 and August 2011 were included. Ocular higher-order aberrations of all the eyes were measured using the Hartmann-Shack aberrometer (KR-1W, topcon). Examinations were performed preoperatively, as well as one week, one month, and six months after Veriflex pIOLs implantation. Changes in ocular total and corneal higher-order aberrations, spherical aberration, coma aberration, and trefoil aberration in the central 4-mm zone and expressed as root mean square (RMS) values were analyzed
Results:
The mean patient age was 27.5 years, and the mean preoperative spherical equivalent was -8.59 ± 1.84 diopters(D). The mean postoperative spherical equivalents were 0.00 ± 0.13D, 0.21 ±0.29D, 0.18 ± 0.27D at one week, one month, and six months, respectively. Postoperatively, spherical decreased(P < 0.05 ), trefoil and coma aberration increased( P < 0.05, P < 0.05, respectively)
Conclusions:
Artiflex pIOLs implantation decreased spherical aberration, but increased trefoil and coma aberration. This aberration changes may be related with surgical incision and optic design FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
