Purpose:
To determine the differences in the refractive outcome, visual results, quality of vision, and dry eye parameters in eyes undergoing either LASIK or FLEx in the same patients.
Setting:
A prospective, randomized, contralateral study
Methods:
This prospective, randomized, contralateral study enrolled 34 eyes (17 patients) that underwent femtosecond assited LASIK in one eye and FLEx in the fellow eye. Refractive outcome, visual acuity, straylight, contrast sensitivity, tear film break-up time(BUT), corneal staining, tear osmolarity, topography and high order aberrations were measured preoperatively and 1 day, 3months, 6 months and 18 months postoperatively. The results were compared between the two eyes.
Results:
There were no differences in the refractive outcome, visual results, contrast sensitivity, corneal aberration and dry eye parameters(TBUT, corneal staining, tear osmolarity) in eyes undergoing between FLEx and visu-LASIK in the same patients.
Conclusions:
In previous study, FLEx has several advantages such as biomechanically stronger cornea, better surgical alignment, superior accuracy of correct amount and exact aspheric correction.
