Purpose:
The authors proposed revealing the favorable treatment with oral mucosa graftings in patients being hospitalized in the Ophthalmologic Clinic of Craiova during the last two years.
Setting:
Craiova Country, Emergency Hospital, Ophthalmology Clinic
Methods:
We mention the following situations where we performed oral mucosa graftings such as:
- Lack of bulbal conjunctiva in the case of removed conjunctival melanoma;
- Insufficient Orbitary cavity with ocular protesis expulsion
Oral mucosa self-graftings were performed in both situations.
Results:
The postoperatory evolution was favorable, the graftings were quickly integrated; ocular bulb was covered on the denudate surface in the first situation; the orbitary cavity got back the prosthesis in the second situation.
We mention that one year after the surgical treatment, the case with conjunctival melanoma did not present local recurrence, under oncologic treatment.
Conclusions:
Oral mucosa self-graftings may be considered as a therapeutic benefic alternative under the situations of large conjunctival denudations. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
