Purpose:
To reveal regularities of structural and functional changes in presbyopia formation in different refractive conditions.
Setting:
Irkutsk Branch of S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution
Methods:
160 persons in 2 age groups (18-30 years and 45-60 years) with different types of refraction (Em, M, Hm) without concomitant ophthalmopathology were examined. Following parameters were examined: far and near visual acuity (monocular and binocular), contrast sensitivity, retinal light sensitivity, nearest point of clear vision, reserve of relative accommodation, stereovision, area of binocular interaction (in natural conditions), indices of tonography, electroretinography, pupillometry, and aberrometry (OPD scan, Nidek).
Results:
Age decrease of accommodation occurs at the background of significant changes of anatomic correlations and optic characteristics, decrease of functional capabilities of visual analyzer and formation of pathologic functional system of visual perception. Key mechanisms of presbyopia formation, except accommodation decrease, are change of pupillary functions and disintegration of binocular interaction. Contributions of each component in presbyopia formation in patients with different types of refraction are different.
Conclusions:
Accommodation decrease isnt isolated symptom of " senile vision" . Disappearance of one of components of synkinetic reflex to near distance is accompanied by change of its other components. It must be taking in consideration in presbyopia correction. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
