Purpose:
In this assay we will refer to the study of prognostic factors of traumatic hyphaemas
Setting:
During the last 10 years, 32 patients with traumatic hyphaema have been hospitalized in the Ophthalmologic clinic of Thriasion General Hospital
These patients were divided in three groups according to the size of the hyphaema
The first group included 12 patients with a small size (3- 4mm) hyphaema
The second group included 14 patients with a medium size hyphaema until the pupilary edge
The third group included 6 patients with a large hyphaema which almost occupied the entire anterior chamber
Methods:
slit-lamp examination, Intra occular pressure measurements
Results:
In all 24 patients the hyphaema was absorbed and the intraocular pressure (IOP) was controlled within 4-25 days only with conservative treatment
In 2 of these patients surgical treatment was performed and in 6 of these patients increased IOP remained after the hyphaema absorption
The residual IOP was controlled with chronic antiglaucomatic drug use
Conclusions:
The prognosis of traumatic hyphaema depends on its size and color
Furthermore, it depends on the recurrence of bleeding and the time of its absorption
Finally but mainly it depends on the increase of IOP and the corneal blood staining FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
