Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate a multifocal IOL for cataract surgery. This new generation of multifocal refractive IOLs aims to minimize postoperative visual problems encountered with traditional multifocal IOLs under all light conditions. For this purpose, the additional power is concentrated in the center of the optical zone and it is linked to the peripheral portion of the optic thanks to an aspherically curved zone dedicated to mid-distance vision

Setting:

C.M.A. Centro di Microchirurgia Ambulatoriale, Monza, Italy

Methods:

47 cataract surgery eyes received a multifocal IOL (Soleko FIL 611 PV ). In this lens the total area dedicated to mid and near vision is of 2.00 mm; in this small central area we can find 3 progressive additional power steps, reaching + 3.75 D. This lens is available in a range of powers from + 9.00 D to + 28.00 D, in steps of 0.50 D. To optimize in the bag stability and centration, the IOL features four closed haptics and a total diameter of 11.00 mm. The diameter of the optic is of 6.0 mm. A Soleko FIL 611 was implanted bilaterally through a 2.8 - 3.0 mm incision following cataract removal . Follow-up examinations were performed at 1 week, 1, 3, 6 months and 1 year, and included uncorrected (UCVA) and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) for distance, as well as distance-corrected near and intermediate visual acuity. Patient satisfaction surveys were administered to assess functional visual performance, spectacle independence, and unwanted visual disturbs

Results:

We studied 47 eyes of 27 patients. Mean preoperative BCVA was 0.18 ± 0.07 with -0.45 ± 1.21 D SE. One year postoperatively, mean monocular BCVA was 0.88 ± 0.12. Mean UCVA for near was J 2.17. Mean corrected monocular near vision was J 1.17 with 1.50 ± 1.22

Conclusions:

Soleko FIL 611 PV, a new generation multifocal IOL, is recommended for bilateral implantation. Clinical outcomes indicate that it is a multifocal IOL providing good distance and near vision FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: ... receives consulting fees, retainer, or contract payments from a company producing, developing or supplying the product or procedure presented, ... travel has been funded, fully or partially, by a company producing, developing or supplying the product or procedure presented
