Purpose:
to present first experiences with canaloplasty from University Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland
Setting:
Clinical Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland
Methods:
12 patients (12 eyes), 7 women and 5 men, mean age 45,6 years with diagnose primary open angle glaucoma, mean IOP 24,5 mmHg, underwent canaloplasty procedure. Mean IOP in 6-months follow-up period, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intra- and postoperative complications were analyzed.
Results:
In a 6-months follow up period mean IOP decrease was 35%. BCVA did not significantly change. Among intraoperative complications we observed microperforation in 2 eyes. A most common postoperative complication was microhyphema in 7 eyes.
Conclusions:
canaloplasty is a safe an innovative procedure performed with use of conventional drainage systems of the eye which lowers effectively IOP in patients with open angle glaucoma. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
