Purpose:
To present 7 cases of DMEK-S surgery in patients with posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy (PPCD).
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, 3rd Medical Faculty, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.
Methods:
10 eyes of 7 patients with diagnosis of PPCD underwent DMEK-S or DMEK-S combined with cataract surgery (phacoemulsification and PC IOL implantation). One patient underwent DMEK-S with secondary AC IOL implantation. Mean follow up time was 24 months (2,54) . Mean age was 59 years (24,83). Following parameters were evaluated: UCVA, BCVA, endothelial cell count (ECC) and postoperative complications.
Results:
Mean UCVA increased from 0,33 preoperatively to 0,51 postoperatively, mean BCVA increased from 0,37 preoperatively to 0,83 postoperatively. Mean postoperative ECC was 1377. 5 eyes of 3 patients underwent air bubble reinjection due to lamella detachement in the early postoperative period. We did not realize any rejection.
Conclusions:
DMEK-S surgery seems to be an effective method of treatment of patients with posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy. Our experience shows promising postoperative results in all patients. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
