Purpose:
An estimation of ultrastructure of various layers of a cornea, refraction result and quality of visual functions at the patients after operation LASIK, in the remote postoperative period.
Setting:
St.-Petersburg brunch of Svyatoslav Fyodorov " Eye Microsurgery" clinic
Methods:
The investigated group included 22 patients (44 eyes). The postoperative period was from 4 to 10 years. Patients before operation had myopic refraction of various degrees. Except standard methods of research, it was made a pachymetry card, keratotopography and confocal microscopy, which allows visualizing postoperative changes at cellular level, and thickness of various corneal sublayers.
Results:
Averaged pachymetry data specifies in growth of a thickness of a cornea depending on supervision terms in a range from 25 to 120 microns. In the presence of initial high myopia, the thickness of a cornea at patients in 10 years after LASIK has returned to preoperative values.
Conclusions:
In the remote postoperative period substantial growth of a thickness of a cornea in the central part is observed. The increase in a thickness of a cornea first of all is connected with morphology of the interface between flap and corneal bed. Laser surgery allows receiving the highest retinal visual acuity, but in the remote period, changes of a corneal tissue return patients to myopic refraction. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
