Purpose:
To report outcome and complications among various ophthalmologists with variable experience
Setting:
King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital
Methods:
A total of 150 DSAEK procedures were done by 10 ophthalmologists with variable degree of experience and majority did less than 5 cases.The outcome and complication rate were compared between ophthalmologists with variable DSAEK experience.
Results:
The age range from 3-93 years and the mean follow up was one year. The DSAEK indications included bollus keratopathy 73%, Fuchs endothelial dystrophy 17%, and Congenital Hereditary dystrophy 16%. Grafts finally attached in 96%,and separated or dislocated in 15%, and finally failed in 9% of the cases. There were no differences in outcome and complications rate between those with experienced versus less experienced.
Conclusions:
DSAEK has steep learning curve with minimum and comparable complications rate among various degree of surgical experience. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
