Purpose:
To evaluate development of cystoid macular edema of the uncomplicated phacosurgery
Setting:
Ministry of Health Ulucanlar Eye Education and Researching Hospital
Ankara/TURKEY
Methods:
Patients operated in divide and conquer tecnique with ICE and CASE mode in white star micropulse phacosurgery system were prospectively analyzed for development of cystoid macular edema. Fundus of all patient examined both with ophthalmoscopy and spectral domain OCT . Ocular and Systemic risk factors for developement of CME were evaluated.
Results:
All 120 patiens were operated with same ICA and CASE mode in White Star tecnology in same phaco machine. None of them had any intraoperative complication such as posterior capsule rupture, incisional burn or iris trauma during the surgery. CME was observed in 3 patient by ophthalmoscopy and a total of 8 patients by OCT. Six of them including 3 patient with ophthalmoscopic CME had Diabetes Mellitus without diabetic retinopathy. The mean age was 72.1 years in patient had CME and it was 66.4 in patients without CME. The mean preop Central foveal thickness was 225.75µm and postop CFT was 314.62 µm on first month and decreased to 261.5 µm on third month in patient had CME. DM and advanced age were foud risk factors for CME in patient underwent phaco surgery in white star technology.
Conclusions:
Micropulse phacosystem with ICE and CASE mode was effective and safe technology for cataract surgery and it has no side effect for retina such as development of CME. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
