First Asian experience of small aperture corneal inlay implantation in a post CK patient

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report a case of small aperture corneal Inlay implantation in a patient following loss of near vision after post-conductive keratoplasty (CK) regression.

Setting:

Vista Eye Specialist, Selangor, Malaysia

Methods:

Case study of a 50-year old Asian female patient in a clinical practice who underwent implantation of the Kamra inlay (AcuFocus, Inc.) after prior CK treatment. The patient had a preoperative sphere of +0.75D and a residual bed greater than 250 microns. The patient had one CK rings, no prior RK or LASIK, and no conditions contraindicated for laser vision correction. Target post-op refraction with LASIK was -0.75D. Visual acuity and satisfaction were assessed.

Results:

Binocular uncorrected near visual acuity improved from N14 at preop to N5+ at one month and N3- at 6 months. Monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity in the inlay eye was 6/12+ at one month and 6/9+ at 6 months. Binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity remained constant from pre to post-op at 6/6. Patient satisfaction was high.

Conclusions:

In this patient, implantation of a small aperture inlay following CK improved near vision with no change in binocular distance acuity. Surgeon should be cautious with the potential risk associated with a post-CK femtosecond flap, which is vertical gas breakthrough at the thermal site. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
