Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present an interesting case where a sulcus fixated intraocular lens (Sulcoflex, Rayner) was used in an eye with multiple previous refractive corneal and intraocular procedures.

Setting:

OPHTHALMOS EYE INSTITUTE, Athens, Greece

Methods:

We treated one eye of a female patient who had the following procedures in chronological order by the same surgeon (SG): radial keratotomies for myopia, conductive keratoplasty for hyperopic shift, ICL implantation due to regression of hyperopia and finally cataract extraction with in the bag intraocular lens implantation (combined with ICL removal). Post cataract surgery the eye was highly hypermetropic(+7,00D) with moderate against the rule astigmatism (-2,00D). A Sulcoflex IOL was implanted during an uneventful procedure.

Results:

Sulcoflex supplementary IOL corrected preoperative ametropia to -0,50D postoperatively. The astigmatism remained unchanged. Over a 18 months follow up period the lens remained well centered with no complications such as iris chaffing, intraocular pressure rise or interlenticular opacification.

Conclusions:

Sulcoflex supplementary IOL was used successfully to correct ametropia in this complicated refractive case and can be considered in similar cases where further corneal surgery or IOL exchange is not the best option . FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
