Purpose:
? Introduction: The purpose of this study was to analyzed 600 eyes (308 patients) undergoing LASIK treatment. In the region of Kosova, the first excimer laser refractive surgery intervention, was performed on july 2005 (German Eye Clinic Prishtina and co-operation LadarVision Alcon).
Setting:
German Eye Clinic Prishtina, Kosova
Methods:
? Matherial and methods: In our study we have analysed 600 excimer laser cases: statistical data about the number of operations, preoperative investigations, operative methods, postoperative care and postoperative complications. Methods of intervention where Lasik (a nasal hinged flap and an Amadeus microkeratome were used).
Results:
? Results: The age of the patients ranged from 19 to 54 years. The mean age was 30.2 yrs. Of the 600 eyes, 69.4% were myopic (in 28.2% of cases spherical equivalent refraction was between 3-6 dptr) and 30.6% were hyperopic (in 11.3% of cases SER was between 0-3dptr). The patients were followed at least for 6 weeks after the operation. A total of 91.2% were within +/-0.50D of intended correction. None of the eyes treated lost > or = 2 lines of BSCVA. To improve uncorrected visual acuity, 21 (3.5%) eyes had retreatments performed. Eyes were significantly more likely to undergo retreatment if they were hyperopic
Conclusions:
? Conclusion: In our practice until now we have had satisfactory clinical success with Lasik surgery using Alcon LadarVision system. Excimer laser LASIK was safe and effective for treating myopia, hyperopia and astigmatismus. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
