Purpose:
to compare efficacy and safety between Kelman and Straight tips in 1.8 mm incision phacoemulsification in burst and pulse mode
Setting:
Jakarta Eye Center
Methods:
non randomized prospective study on 274 eyes underwent phacoemulsification with nucleus density 2 and 3 divided into 2 group: 145 eyes burst mode and 229 eyes pulse mode using Kelman and straight tip. Efficacy were evaluated on Effective Phaco Time (EPT), Absolute Phaco Time (APT) and Ultrasound (US) average; safety were evaluated any complications during surgery and post op follow-up.
Results:
In pulse mode there was no significant difference in EPT, APT and US average (p>0.05) in nucleus density 2 between Kelman and straight tip. Significant difference in EPT and APT (<0.05) and there was no difference in US average (>0.05) in nucleus density 3 between Kelman and straight tip..
In burst mode there was no significant difference (>0.05) in EPT, APT and US average in nucleus density 2. Significant difference (<0.05) in EPT and APT and there was no difference in US average in nucleus density 3. There were not complications during surgery and follow up.
Conclusions:
Kelman tip was effective in dense nucleus compare to straight tip in 1.8 mm incision phacoemulsification. Both Kelman and straight were safe. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
