Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate topographic findings in hyperopic patients referred to Seyedoshohada refractive surgery center,2006-2007

Setting:

Seyedoshohada refractive surgery center,Yazd,Iran,2006-2007

Methods:

In this descriptive-analytic study 400 eyes from 200 patients enrolled by simple sampling method, from 2006 to 2007. Hyperopic refractive error diagnosis was confirmed by dry retinoscopic refraction. We put on no age limitation. Exclusion criteria were orbital trauma history, any ocular pathology, previous eye surgery, strabismus and topical medication use. Finally 302 eyes of 151 patients fulfilled inclusion criteria and were included in the study. ORB scan performed in all cases and required data like central corneal thickness(CCT), anterior chamber depth(ACD), pupil diameter(PD),keratometery and spherical equivalent(SE) were recorded in questionnaire, as well as demographic information.

Results:

sex distribution was 58.3% male and 41.7% female. Range of age was 17-67 years old.The average of CCT was 542±34.79 ?min males and 551.53±35.98?m in females. The average of ACD was 2.60±0.43 mm in males and 2.53±0.46 mm in females. The PD average was 3.58±0.70 mmand 3.64±0.62 mm for males and females respectively. The average of corneal keratometery was 43.84±1.93 D in males and 44.02±1.94 D in females. Finally SE average was determined 4.71±1.97 D through males and 4.59±1.90 D through females. We classed patients to three age group: <30 years (99 patients) , 30 - <45 years(93 patients) , 45 years ?(103 patients). In the first age group the average of CCT was 547.35±38.41 ?m,the second group 555.44±38.31?m and the last one 546.28±29.33.The average of ACD was 2.82±0.39mm, 2.49±0.39 and 2.37±0.4 respectively. The average of PD was 3.96±0.7mm for the youngest group,3.52±0.63mm for middle one and 3.31±0.47 for the oldest group. The last item was keratometery average 43.61±1.77 D in first group, 43.45±1.89 D in second and 44.68±1.95 D in the last group.

Conclusions:

The average CCT was more in females that might be due to hormonal influence. We found a direct relationship between CCT and SE. In other word the higher the SE, the thicker the central corneal. The reverse correlation between CCT and ACD shows by increasing CCTwe should expect decreasing ACD. The same correlation between keratometery and ACD states bykeratometery increasing there be CCT decreasing.Along raising SE in hyperopic patients, anterior chamber gets shallow, as PD diminishes. Aging in our patients accompanied with decreasing ACD and PD and increasing corneal keratometery. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
