Purpose:
To measure the width of capsule cover on the IOL optic postoperatively using specially designed software.
Setting:
Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre
Methods:
Retroillumination digital images were resized using Adobe Photoshop to measure capsule cover width on IOL optic. Software has a specially designed grid, on which digital retro-illumination image is superimposed so that it divides IOL optic into 6 major concentric segments,1mm each. Each is subdivided in 4 minor concentric segments, 0.25mm each. To measure width of capsule cover,12 black lines are constructed dividing optic into 12clock hours. Observer highlights one point in each clock hour, which gives width of capsule cover in that clock hour. Software automatically adds up number of concentric segments starting from periphery in multiples of 0.25mm,defining width of the capsule cover. Capsule cover was defined as: total symmetric rhexis cover, total asymmetric rhexis cover, part on and total off
Results:
Hundred eyes with in-the-bag implantation of a 6mm optic single-piece or multi-piece hydrophobic acrylic IOL (Alcon Laboratories, USA) were evaluated. Five different IOLs (20 eyes for each group) were evaluated Single-piece, aspheric IOL(SN60WF), Single-piece, Aspheric-Multifocal IOL(SN6AD1), Single-piece Aspheric-TORIC(SN6ATT), Single-piece, aspheric-toric-multifocal(SND1TT) and Three-piece IOL(MA60BM) group. The final results will be updated at the time of presentation
Conclusions:
This software-based technique represents a direct, accurate, and visual means of measuring the width of capsule cover on the IOL optic on digital retroillumination photographs. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
