Purpose:
Treatment for wrinkles occurring after LASIK.
Setting:
Clinic Krumeich Bochum, Germany
Methods:
Lasik flaps showing folds of BowmanĀs membrane named wrinkles introduce aberrations of different kinds and diminish visual acuity. Lifting the flap and reattachment even under compression are rarely successfully treating this occurrence 36 or more hours after the operation. Lifting the flap in local or general anesthesia and placing a 10x0 nylon double running anti torque suture (DRA) makes these folds and the induced aberrations disappear. The suture has not changed refraction nor the correction obtained. The technique may even be used months after the wrinkles have appeared.
Results:
More than 30 eyes have been treated with no recurrence or side effects.
Conclusions:
To combat visually disturbing flap folds the surgeon may have to include the DRA into his armamentarium. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
