Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the visual outcomes of three LASIK procedures (presbyLASIK), Laser Blended Vision (LBV, Carl Zeiss), Supracor (Technolas Perfect Vision)and F-CAT (Alcon, Wavelight) for correction of distance, intermediate and near visual acuity.

Setting:

Clinique de la Vision, Paris

Methods:

Monocular and binocular distance, intermediate and near decimal values acuities were measured under similar conditions 3 months after Lasik for presbyopia in 103 eyes of 52 patients divided in three groups: LBV (20 eyes), Supracor (22 eyes), F-CAT (61 eyes). All acuity measures were standardized at 5 m (distance), 80 cm, 60 cm (intermediate) and 40 cm (near). All visual acuity measures were taken in the same ambient light conditions and contrast. Mean uncorrected depth of field and binocular defocus curve were measured 3 months after the surgery.

Results:

Mean age for LBV, Supracor and F-CAT groups, respectively, was 53.4 +/- 4.5 years; 54.8 +/- 5.7 years; 53.7 +/- 2.7 years. Monocular and binocular postoperative distance mean visual acuities for LBV, Supracor and F-CAT, were respectively, 0.77 +/- 0.33 and 0,97 +/- 0.07; 0.65+/-0.22 and 0.81+/-0.20; 0.85 +/-0.12 and 1.02 +/- 0.14. Monocular and binocular postoperative near mean visual acuities for LBV, Supracor and F-CAT were , respectively, 0.75 +/- 0.27 and 0.95 +/- 0.20; 0.74 +/- 0.28 and 0.82 +/- 0.23; 0,83 +/- 0,10 and 0,96 +/- 0,11. Mean uncorrected depth of field for LBV, Supracor and F-CAT were measured, respectively, from 26,6 +/- 3,5 cm to 67,8 +/- 14,7 cm; 28,5 +/- 12,2 cm to 77,0 +/- 13,4 cm; 28,7 +/- 6,6 cm to 64,5 +/- 12,1 cm. A qualitative comparison of three different defocus curves is reported.

Conclusions:

In our experience, uncorrected binocular distance, intermediate and near visual acuities improved in the three groups. Uncorrected binocular distance and near acuity was better in F-CAT and LBV groups without significant difference. Uncorrected depth of field and binocular uncorrected defocus curve improved in the three groups. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
