Purpose:
Assessment of Assessment of efficacy and stability of refractive correction in high myope patient and treatment modality in Lasik reject patients
Setting:
A prospective interventional study done at Anand eye centre, Jaipur.
Methods:
This single centre study involved 29 patients (52 eyes) with high myopia (spherical equivalent between -8.0 and -20.0 diopters) over a duration of 6 months. The age of patients involved in the study was ranging between 20 to 29 years. All the eyes received implantation of phakic IOL (ICL Visian), 16 eyes of which receiving Toric (STAAR surgical ICL). Follow-up examinations were scheduled for 1 day, 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 months postoperatively
Results:
The preoperative BSCVA ranged from 6/36 to 6/6. At the end of 6 months, 7 eyes which were under-corrected attained postoperative UCVA 1 line lower than preoperative BSCVA while 45 eyes achieved postoperative UCVA achieved postoperative UCVA better than or equal to preoperative BSCVA. The improvement in BSCVA ranged between 0 and 7 lines respectively. The postoperative intraocular pressure on regular follow-ups was higher than the preoperative IOP. 14 eyes of 8 patients showed an increase in IOP from the baseline of about 10 mm of Hg and all were controlled to normal range with topical medications. 5 patients (9 eyes) complained of glare and night vision problems.
Conclusions:
Phakic IOL implantation showed good safety, efficacy and predictability for correction of patients of high myopia with or without astigmatism. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
