Purpose:
To evaluate diffractive multifocal IOLs for uncorrected near and distance visual acuity and their contrast sensitivity.
Setting:
Narayana Nethralaya superspeciality Eye Hospital , Narayana Hrudalaya Health city , Bommasandra . Bangalore, India
Methods:
Patients who underwent multifocal iol implantation were evaluated at 6 weeks for uncorrected near and distance visual acuity. Contrast sensitivity measured under scotopic and mesopic conditions. Restor multifocal iol implanted.
Results:
34 Eyes of 22 patients evaluated. Uncorrected distance visual acuity at 6 weeks post op was 6/12 or better in 78.8 % of patients and near visual acuity was N6 in all patients. 55.6% of patients had normal photopic contrast sensitivity and 88.9% had normal mesopic contrast sensitivity.
Conclusions:
Diffractive multifocals give excellent uncorrected distance and near visual acuity. Contrast testing reveals that diffractive IOL give good mesopic contrast. Majority of patients came for other eye multifocal iol surgery. Majority of patients did not use spectacles post surgery. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
