Purpose:
To identify the change of tear film with age
Setting:
Prospective design
Methods:
Normal young people(20-29 YO) and normal old people(60-69 YO) were measured tear film with OQAS. The total patients were 60 persons. The gender ratio in each group was fifty-fifty. They were not diagnosed in dry eye syndrome and other anterior segment disease. They were measured to know the Tear Breakup Time with OQAS. The Optical Quality Analysis System test (OQAS; Visiometrics, Terrassa, Spain) is a double-pass, noninvasive optical assessment of tear film quality.
Results:
The mean OSI values for normal young people group and old people group were 0.85±0.25 and 1.46±0.45, respectively. The tear film breakup time of normal young people group and old people group were, respectively, 10.42±3.7 seconds and 6.675±3.07 seconds(p<0.05). Statistical analysis showed significant differences in tear film breakup time between the normal young people and old people group. The young people group is better than old people group in tear film maintenance.
Conclusions:
: Empirically functional tear film decrease with age. In this study we prove the fact objectly. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
