Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual performance and patient satisfaction after implantation of an aspheric single piece multifocal lens with full diffractive pattern.

Setting:

Clinique La Part Dieu Lyon (Lyon), Clinique Saint Gatien (Tour), Clinique du Val de Loire (Nevers)

Methods:

Thirty-four patients underwent bilateral cataract surgery and implantation of Tecnis ZMB00. Patients were followed-up after 3 months. Major endpoints were uncorrected and best-corrected distance, intermediate and near vision. Use of spectacles was assessed for bright and dim light conditions. Satisfaction of patients and surgeons was documented.

Results:

After 3 months, patients achieved an uncorrected distance, intermediate and near vision (decimal notation) of 0.93 ± 0.12, 0.75 ± 0.25 and 0.96 ± 0.09, respectively. Best corrected vision (decimal notation) was 0.96 ± 0.08 for distance and 0.97 ± 0.07 for near (corrected for distance). Mild halos were reported by 9% of the patients and 1 patient reported moderate halos. Asked whether they would choose the same surgery again, 91% of the patients agreed and would also recommend the procedure to their friends and family. Glasses for distance were used by 3 patients, reading glasses by 2 patients, independent of the light conditions. When both, patients and surgeons, were asked whether the outcome has met their expectations the satisfaction score was the same, 8.9 ± 1,6 on a scale from 1 (not at all) to 10 (fully).

Conclusions:

In this French evaluation, patients achieved excellent results with Tecnis ZMB00 at all distances. Photic phenomena were low and satisfaction of surgeons and patients was high. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
