Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present Nd-Yag laser posterior capsulotomy rates of hydrophobic acrylic(Zaraccom Ultraflex) one-piece intraocular lens (IOL) on cataract treatment in senile patients.

Setting:

Cumhuriyet University School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology

Methods:

In this study, 146 eyes of 97 over 50 year-old cataract patients underwent phacoemulsification and Zaraccom Ultraflex IOL implantation between April 2008 and August 2009 were included retrospectively. The mean age of all patients was 73.62±8.76 (52 to 92) years. The mean postoperative follow-up time was 38.26±6.77 (30-47) months. The frequency of Nd-Yag laser capsulotomies were estimated.

Results:

The mean preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.30 ± 0.21. The final mean BCVA was 0.93 ± 0.07 with Snellen chart. The percentage of eyes which had not undergone laser Nd-Yag capsulotomy was %95.2 with Zaraccom Ultraflex after 38 months from the surgeries. The all lenses were centralized.

Conclusions:

Foldable hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens Zaraccom Ultraflex has very low neodymium:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy rate in senile cataract patients in long term.
