Purpose:
Implanting toric IOL“s an exact intra-operativ alignment of the toric axis is important. A new module the Z-align Callisto-Eye, Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany using an online video overlay could be in advance to the standard marker method.
Setting:
Eye-Competence-Munich, Richard-Strauss-Str. 82, Munich, Germany
Methods:
In a prospective-clinical study cataract surgery with implanting a toric IOL (CT Asphina 709M, Zeiss, Jena, Germany) was performed in 62 eyes (44 patients) having a preexisting corneal astigmatism of ? 1,5. In group I (n=17) the marking of the toric axis was done preoperatively at the sitting patient with the " TABO" marker. In group II the toric alignment of the IOL was done intra-operatively with the help of the Callisto-Eye module.
The toric axis in all patients of both groups was controlled post-operatively (1day, 3 month).
Results:
In all patients the implantation of the toric IOL was uneventful. According to the precision (I: Median: 2°, 0°-43°; II: Median: 2°, 0°-13°) there was no statistical difference in both groups one day and 3 month after surgery (p=0,87; Mann-Whitney-test). According to the stability there was a slight advantage in group II (p=0,08) with a median 3° (0°-22°) over group I with a median 6,5° ( 0°-14°).
Conclusions:
With the Callisto-Eye module the implantation of toric IOL“s can be performed very precise and comfortable compared to the standard marker method FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
