Purpose:
To present a clinical practice guideline (GPC) on the management of cataract in adult patient, in order to unify criteria thereby reducing variability in clinical practice and provide legal cover to the physician.
Setting:
Ophthalmology Department. Navy Hospital. Ferrol Health Area. Ferrol. Spain
Methods:
We performed an extensive literature search of existing GPC, which are evaluated by the method AGREE (Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation) select from those who achieved a higher score (Royal College, Americam Academy) and were in turn adapted (modified, improved and expanded) giving rise to a new clinical practice guideline that covers the whole care process of cataract.
Results:
The resulting GPC contains a series of recommendations based on scientific evidence and understand the entire process of cataract care, from diagnosis, treatment, criteria for inclusion on the waiting list, preoperative anesthesia to post-operative revisions and aids ocular pathologies.
Conclusions:
The current medical practice is facilitated by the existence of GPC quality, based on scientific evidence, to assist the professional in making decisions, while promoting the unification of criteria end provide legal support in their daily clinical practice. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
