Abstract Details

Purpose:

To lessen rate of the epithelial ingrowth under LASIK flap, we want to show thess techniques with femtosecond laser.

Setting:

Kobekanagawa Eyeclinic, Tokyo, Japan

Methods:

Epithelial cell ingrowth was sometime shown with enhancement procedure 1 week postoperatively, especially after the previous microkeratomic LASIK cases. Wished less ingrowth around the flap edge, we selected next 2 methods then compared the technical safety and rate of recurrent ingrowth. 1. Side cut only with the femtosecond laser (iFS by Abott Medical Optics, US) within the circle of previous line. 2. Creating a new femtosecond flap with same Intralase.

Results:

With method 1, one eye was done without surgical problem when lifting up but in the ingrowth area the side cutting was not curvature portionally. Method 2 was undergone for 9 eyes (5cases). Not only the sugical difficulty when lifting these new flaps, but also the new side cutting were easier been cross section with the primary microkeratomic flap. On 3 eyes with two cases, we identified the re-ingrowth partialy although not needed the extra removal treatment.

Conclusions:

Method 1 followed as Prof. Jose L. Guell paper (2011 JCRS) would be safer technique and the less regenerated ingrowth complication than method 2. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
