Purpose:
To report a case of corneal edema and endothelial cell loss caused by oral intake of anti-Parkinson medicine PK-merz.
Setting:
A case report.Basic ophthalmological examination were performed under slip lamp .Visual acuity ,the target specular endothelial count and pachymetry were also recorded.
Methods:
A 72-year-old female complained of blurring vision after taking oral anti-Parkinson medication. Bilateral symmetric marked corneal edema were found in first visit. The visual acuity was down to below 0.1. Pachymetry and specular endothelial count could not been evaluated due to marked corneal edema.Withdrawal of PK-merz and topical steroid eyedrop were used.
Results:
The cornea got clearer after quitting PK-merz. And the corneal edema resolved weeks later. The visual acuity recovered to 0.7. But specular endothelial count showed endothelial cell density was only 700 per milimeter square.
Conclusions:
Oral anti-Parkinson drug PK-merz can cause acute corneal edema, which can subside after medicine withdrawal. But severe corneal endothelial cell loss was found. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
