Visual outcomes following lensectomy and Artisan iris-claw lens implantation in children with congenital lens subluxation

Purpose:

To describe the results of Artisan iris-claw lens implants in children with congenital lens subluxation.

Setting:

Konya University, Meram Medical Faculty, Department of Ophthalmology

Methods:

: The data of subjects who were undergone lensectomy and Artisan iris-claw lens implantation were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative and postoperative visual acuity, target and achieved refractions and complications were analysed.

Results:

Artisan iris-claw lenses were implanted in four eyes of three children with congenital lens subluxation. One of these children had congenital lens subluxation secondary to Marfan’s syndrome and the other two were idiopathic. Mean age of patients and mean follow-up time were 8,12±3,92 years (range 6-14 years) and 15,25±5,67 months (range 7-19 months), respectively. Mean preoperative uncorrected Snellen visual acuity was 0,07±0,02 (range 0,05-0,1) and mean postoperative uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity were 0,37±0,12 (range 0,2-0,5) and 0,60±0,14 (range 0,5-0,8), respectively. Emmetropia was the target refraction for all eyes and mean postoperative spherical equivalent refraction was -0,06 diopters. There were no intraoperative or postoperative complications during the follow-up period.

Conclusions:

: Artisan iris-claw implants gave a good visual outcome and are safe and effective in the correction of aphakia in children following lensectomy for congenital lens subluxation. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
