Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the surgical visual field of various intraocular lenses (IOLs) in pseudophakic eyes during retinal surgery.

Setting:

Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital

Methods:

We calculate the area 4 mm away from various diopters (+16.0D~+25.0D) of IOLs (AcrySof single piece (SA60AT, Alcon), AcrySof IQ (SN60WF, Alcon), Sensar (AR40e, AMO), Tecnis (Z9000, AMO), C-flex (570C, Rayner), and Super-flex (Rayner)) observing through the optics at surgical microscope in balanced salt solution.

Results:

Aspheric IOLs ((AcrySof IQ (SN60WF, Alcon) and Tecnis (Z9000, AMO)) or IOL with larger optic size (Super-flex (Rayner) showed much larger field of vision through surgical microscope regardless of the diopters, which was not statistically significant (p<0.05).

Conclusions:

To compensate the loss of peripheral visual field during retinal surgery in pseudophakic eyes, it could be better to choose the aspheric IOLs or IOLs with larger optic size. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
