Purpose:
Epigallocatechin 3Galato is an antioxidant and a flavonoid produced as a secondary metabolite by the camellia sinensis plant " green tea" wich, suppresses a wide variety of inflammatory cytokines and angiogenic cytokines similar to those involved in corneal neovascularization
Setting:
: Asociacion para evitar la ceguera en Mexico.
Methods:
Corneal neovascularization was induced in rabbits using sodium hydroxide were applied drops of the flavonoid epigallocatechin 3 - gallate 4 times daily for 7 days at different doses. We assessed inflammation and neovascularization through clinical, histopathological, and with inmunohistochemistry techniques.
Results:
The group of rabbits that received the epigallocatechin 3-gallate at a dose of 1 mg / ml showed minimal or no inflammation and neovascularization both clinical, histopathological, and with the inmunohistochemistry techniques used Anti- monoclonal antibodies anti VEGF, anti- 8-oHdG, T.U.N.E.L)
Conclusions:
Epigallocatechin 3-gallate by its antioxidant, antiproliferative, antiangiogenic and anti-inflammatory antimestastasic properties make it an important target of study. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
