To show incidence of keratoconus in candidates for refractive surgical procedures

Setting:

Methods:

Data of 2.714 patients were analyzed in a two year period. Patients were divided into groups according to their gender, age, degree of keratoconus and if keratoconus affected one or both eyes.

Results:

Keratoconus had 133 male and 99 female patients; one eye was affected in 127 and both eyes in 104 patients; majority of patients with keratoconus was 26-35 years old; Keratoconus I had 73 patients, Keratoconus II 114, Keratoconus III 88 and Keratoconus IV 58 patients.

Conclusions:

Among 2.714 patients whose data have been analyzed, keratoconus has been discovered in 231 of them, or 8.51%. High degree of keratoconus emphasizes need for more prevalence, as well as better education of the small practice physicians. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
