Purpose:
Evaluation of IOL unfold and intracapsular positioning after hydroimplantation of hydrophobic acrylic IOLs

Methods:
The study includes 20 eyes of 20 patients who underwent uneventful phacoemulsification through 2.2 mm clear corneal incision and 2 side port incisions for bimanual irrigation aspiration. Dispersive and cohesive OVDs were used for corneal endothelial protection and continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis. After irrigation aspiration of the cortex, the implantation under BSS of a hydrophobic acrylic IOL by using the irrigating canula inserted in the left side port was performed
Results:
In all cases the defoldation of the lens was slower; the haptics were separated more difficult from the optic side of the lens, thus making it hard to center the IOL. In 2 of our cases, the haptic part of the lens adopted a twisted vicious position, making it necessary to inject OVD for IOLs correct positioning
Conclusions:
Increased adhesion of hydrophobic acrylic lens causes more difficult defoldation and positioning of an IOL under BSS compared with intraocular lenses implanted under OVD. However, this method guarantees OVDs removal from the eye, thus shortening the operating time by approximately 2 minutes FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
