Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy of a new single piece Multifocal Toric intraocular lens in reducing pre-existing astigmatism in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Setting:
Multi-disciplinary hospital
Methods:
Prospective case series study. Inclusion criteria were eyes with regular corneal astigmatism greater than 0.50 diopter, with no other co-morbidity. Outcome measures were distance and near visual acuities (VA), IOL rotational stability, residual post-operative astigmatism.
Results:
15 eyes in 9 patients were implanted with no complications. All eyes achieved unaided VA of 20/40 or better for distance and J1 for near. 80% of eyes had less than 0.25D residual astigmatism (100% less than 0.50D). IOL positions were stable at 6 months post-op.
Conclusions:
Good visual outcomes and effective reduction of pre-existing astigmatism were obtained with the Acrysof IQ ReSTOR Multifocal Toric intraocular lens. A high degree of spectacle independence and patient satisfaction were achieved. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
