Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze objective visual quality and to evaluate subjective performance after presbyopic lens exchange (PRELEX) with two types of trifocal intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting:
Neovize Eye Clinic, Brno, Czech Republic
Methods:
36 patients underwent binocular PRELEX with implantation of trifocal IOL, AT LISA® tri 839 MP (36 eyes) and PanOptix®(36 eyes). Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was determined monocularly 3 months after PRELEX. CDVA, distance corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA 60 cm) and distance corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA 33 cm) were measured binocularly. To produce defocus and measure visual acuity additional lenses (range−4.00D to +1.50D in 0.50D steps) were simultaneously introduced in front of both eyes. Subjective satisfaction with near and intermediate vision was evaluated using standardized Near Activity Visual Questionnaire (NAVQ).
Results:
Mean monocular UDVA was 0.09±0.14 log MAR (AT LISA® tri) and 0.11±0.12 (PanOptix®), mean binocular CDVA was -0.04±0.09 (AT LISA® tri) and -0.03±0.09 (PanOptix®), DCIVA was 0.14 ±0.10 (AT LISA® tri) and 0.16 ±0.09 (PanOptix®), DCNVA was 0.05±0.10 (AT LISA® tri) and 0.07±0.12 (PanOptix®). The defocus curves had the peak at the far focus corresponding to 0.00 D. Significant differences were detected between the far and intermediate and the far and near focus in both types of IOLs. No significant difference (p=0.532) was found in Rasch score in AT LISA® tri group (18.59) and Pan Optix® group (19.51).
Conclusions:
Objective visual performance of two types diffractive trifocal IOLs did not differ significantly regard to CDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA. Defocus curves of both trifocal IOLs were similar despite of different dioptric additional foci for intermediate and near vision. Subjective satisfaction (NAVQ) with near and intermediate vision was equal in AT LISA®tri 839 MP group and PanOptix® group.
