Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the visual outcome of keratoconus managed with ICRS implantation and to define criteria for predictable outcome.
Setting:
single hospital, single surgeon, Ojas eye centre, Mumbai, India
Methods:
This retrospective, nonrandomized, comparative, consecutive case series studied 58 eyes of 43 patients with advanced keratoconus managed by Intacs implantation. The outcome measures were analyzed pre-Intacs and 6 months post-Intacs. Preoperative parameters were correlated with outcome
Results:
Intacs were implanted in all eyes with no intraoperative complications. Post op Mean spherical equivalent improved from 4.75 ± 0.09 to 1.5 ± 0.7 at 6 months and BCVA in decimal scale improved from pre op value of 0.4 ± 0.12 to post op value of 0.29 ± 0.15 at 6 months.
Conclusions:
Simultaneous intra corneal ring segments with C3R showed statistically significant improvement in Mean spherical equivalent and also BCVA improved by three lines in decimal scale at 6 months follow-up. Methodological pre op work up, patient selection and following the nomogram leads to predictable outcomes.
