Abstract Details
Purpose:
To retrospectively assess astigmatic corrections after implantation of Tecnis toric one-piece intraocular lenses (IOLs) compared with AcrySof toric IOLs.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Tokyo Dental College Suidobashi Hospital, Tokyo, Japan
Methods:
Twenty seven eyes of 18 patients receiving Tecnis toric IOL (ZCT150, 225, 300, and 400, Abbott Medical Optics) were included. Thirty two eyes of 23 patients were implanted AcrySof toric IOLs (SN6AT3-5, Alcon) as control. Uncorrected and corrected visual acuities, manifest astigmatism, axis alignment up to 1 month postoperatively were compared. Axis alignments were examined using 2 kinds of measurements: the axis of the internal cylindrical refraction obtained with a wavefront analyzer (KR-1W, Topcon) and the position of the IOL’s axis marks observed in an anterior-segment photograph. Absolute differences from the position directed by the toric calculators were calculated.
Results:
There was no significant difference in uncorrected and corrected visual acuities, and manifest astigmatic refraction between the groups. The absolute differences in the Tecnis and Acrysof toric IOLs 1 month postoperatively were 9.1±7.4 and 6.3±6.1 degrees in the internal refractions and 5.6±4.0 and 5.3±4.1 degree in the axis positions, respectively. There was no significant difference between the groups.
Conclusions:
Tecnis toric one-piece IOLs were effective in cataract surgery of patients with corneal astigmatisms, providing astigmatic correction in the similar level of the previous toric IOLs.
